Misc. - Importing

OVERVIEW – To facilitate communicating project data in a company with offices local or worldwide, you can publish project plans in HTML format using the Project Web Site Publisher. Transfer these documents to either the World Wide Web (using FTP) or your office intranet, and view them using an Internet browser. The documents contain hypertext links, or jumps, to other pages in the structure, allowing you to move between projects and reports and from page to page within a report.

When publishing a project Web site, you control the level of detail published in terms of activity information and personal information for resources, as well as which project reports you want to include in the Web site.

Note - You can use the default Web site template, or "scheme," to build your project Web site. You can customize the existing scheme or create your own, adding or changing graphics, fonts, and colors.

  1. In the activity view, click File from the main menu and select Import from the drop-down menu.

  2. Choose Primavera PM /MM (XER) as the format of the file we are going to import.  If you had a file of any of these other types you can import them too.  Click Next.

  3. Leave Project as the Import Type.  Click Next.

  4. Select the file you downloaded at the beginning of this lesson.  Click Next.

  5. Since this project is a backup of WPD – WPs & Documents, already in your database, the Import Action, Update Existing Project, appears.  Change this to Create New Project from the drop-down menu.

  6. Double-click the Import To cell.

  7. Double-click MIS – Misc. from the Select EPS to add into window.  This will make the imported project be added underneath this EPS.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Some people use imports as a way to update schedule information.  This section of the wizard allows you to create a custom configuration depending upon what information you want to be updated or created.  Click Modify with the Default Configuration layout highlighted.

  10. This window allows for a lot of flexibility in terms of what is imported and can make updating an existing schedule easier by giving you options as to what is imported.   Double-click a cell within the Action column to see the various options.  Click Cancel.

  11. Click Next.

  12. Finally, click Finish.

  13. Once it is done importing click OK and go to the project view.

  14. Rename the imported project, WPD-1 – Work Products & Documents, as follows:  IMP – Importing.
